Project Description: The Mechi-Mahakali railway line which is approximately 946 kilometers starts from Mahakali in Kanchanpur district in western Nepal and terminates at Mechi in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal. The Mechi-Mahakali rail alignment passes through (west to east) Mahendranagar, Mahadevpuri, Mahuwa, Tamsaria, Bharatpur, Nijgadh, Chandranigahapur, Bardibas, Lahan, ltahari and Kakarbhitta area covering major industrial and population centers of the country. At present the 1028 kilometers East­West Highway (Mahendra Raajmarga), the most strategic highway linking the country from east to west, links the two border towns with India. The East-West Highway is also the main trade corridor in Nepal. The proposed new railway line normally runs parallel to the East-West Highway. The starting point of alignment lies around 10km east of Nijgadh market near Chocha and end point around 10 km west of Bharatpur near Amarapuri.

Scope of Services:

1. Establishment of Benchmarks at about 2 Km interval and establishment of control point at about 300 m interval in the alignment        network using the DGPS and establishment of monuments at the point of establishment of Benchmarks;
2. Carrying out the traverse and leveling survey of the Benchmarks and Control Points;
3. Carrying out the Detailed Topographic Survey of the Railway Alignment with 150 m width of the survey corridor on each side from       the center line;
4. Conducting the layout of the works in the field for design verification;
5. Carrying out the detailed topographic survey of the approach alignment with 60 m width i.e. 30 m on each side from the road               center line;
6. Carrying out the survey for the bridges in the following manner:
    • For major Bridged (Width more than 50m): 1 km U/S and D/S from the axis of the bridge of the river and survey points up to 200           m beyond each of the river banks;
    • For Minor Bridges RUB/ROB (width more than 12-50): 500 m U/S and D/S from the asis of the bridge of the river and survey                   points up to 50 m beyond each of the river banks;
    • For Cross-drainage (width less than 12m): 200 m U/S and D/S from the axis of the brige of the river/ stream/ drainage and survey         points up to 25 m beyond each of the river banks.
7. Detailed Topographic survey of the Railway Station;
8. Detailed Topographic and land use survey in the place of RUB/ ROB with a contour interval of 0.25 m;
9. Preparation of the detailed Cadastral Survey map;
10. Overall mapping and reporting of the survey field data and processed data and reports;
11. Equipment used;
    • Total Station, Fly Leveling, DGPS, etc. with data card/logger as the DEM
