Project Description: DHM has planned to develop and establish an operational system for daily and seasonal snow and glacier cover/mapping which shall be the supportive tool for Glacier mass balance studies. The purpose of this study is to develop the detail status of the snow cover in the Glacier in the Specified time period.

Scope of Services:

1. Review of present state of available Snow and glacier monitoring network data, hydro climatic data, records, quality and                        consistency.
2. Review of snow fall information, glacier lakes and permafrost studies in Nepal;
3. Assessment of snow density and snow precipitation, discharge and other climatologically and hydrological parameter from current     Snow Glacier measurement stations.
4. National and International practices of snow and glacier related analysis and coverage.
5. Regularly download and process the MODIS/SENTINENAL/LANDSAT images in the snow cover area.
6. Automatize the regular downloading and processing the MODIS/ SENTINENAL and LANDSAT images in the snow cover area.
7. Provide the snow coverage and thickness detection with time for the internally pre-defined fashion
8. Snow data capture, GIS integration and map production.
9. Develop an appropriate snow mapping algorithm satisfactory to client.
10. Use free available Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data to find snow cover area of glaciers.
11. Provide an interactive snow cover mapping covering Nepal and derive basin wise statistics which are important for the study of            snow budget.
12. Estimate the changes in snow line elevation on seasonal and annual basis.
13. Develop automatic operational system software for Daily, Seasonal and Annual Snow and Glacier Monitoring using Python or R            programming.
14. Capacity development of client staff with comprehensive training.
15. Provide the idea for Glacier mass balance monitoring study and recommendation on how often glacier mass balance study needs        to be repeated in context of Nepal.
16. Cost estimate and tender document preparation for Glacier mass balance monitoring study for bidding purpose.
